Following the Sun South: Make the Journey Part of the Adventure
Following the Sun South: Make the Journey Part of the Adventure

Explore the New Follow the Sun Passport Program from Streamside Resorts
Every fall, a familiar migration begins. RVs roll south, winter destinations are plugged into GPS systems, and snowbirds settle back into the routes that will carry them toward warmer weather.
For many travelers, Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko, Georgia, is a familiar stop along that journey. Located just a quarter mile off I-75 in Middle Georgia, Twin Oaks welcomes RVers heading south for the winter, returning north in the spring, or simply exploring somewhere new along the way.
While reaching that warmer winter destination might be the goal, some of the best RV memories are made before you ever get there.
That’s the idea behind Follow the Sun, a new travel program connecting 22 Streamside Resorts and encouraging RV travelers to discover more places along their routes. With a passport program that rewards qualifying stays, Follow the Sun gives travelers another reason to revisit favorite campgrounds, explore new destinations, and make the journey just as memorable as the destination.
Whether Twin Oaks is already part of your annual snowbird route or you’re discovering it for the first time, this season is an opportunity to look at the road a little differently.
Sometimes, the best part of heading south is everything you find along the way.
Follow the Sun, One Stay at a Time
One of the best things about RV travel is that there’s no single way to get where you’re going. Some snowbirds follow the same route every year, stopping at familiar campgrounds along the way. Others enjoy mixing things up, exploring new towns, and discovering places they might want to visit again.
With 22 participating Streamside Resorts, Follow the Sun brings those possibilities together, giving travelers more opportunities to connect their favorite stops with new destinations.
Maybe that means spending a few nights at Twin Oaks before continuing south toward Florida. Maybe it’s discovering another Streamside Resort along the Gulf Coast or returning to a favorite campground on the journey north in the spring.
Sometimes, it means realizing that a place you originally planned to visit for just a night or two deserves a little more time.
The beauty of the journey is that it can look different for everyone. Follow the Sun simply gives RVers another way to enjoy the places they discover along the road, and a reason to keep exploring.
Where Twin Oaks Fits Into the Journey
When you’re spending days or even weeks traveling between destinations, having a campground where you can settle in for a few nights makes a difference.
At Twin Oaks RV Park, travelers will find full-hookup RV sites with 30/50-amp service, including pull-through options that make getting settled easier after a day on the road. Reliable Wi-Fi, clean bathhouses, and on-site laundry facilities help take care of the practical side of RV travel, especially when you’re spending an extended season away from home.
There’s plenty to enjoy when the RV is parked, too. Start the morning with a walk along the campground’s walking trail, get in a workout at the fitness center, or let your four-legged travel companion burn off some energy in the fenced dog area. As the day winds down, pull up a chair around the community fire pit and swap travel stories with fellow RVers.
If you’re in the mood to explore, nearby Perry offers local restaurants, shops, and attractions that give travelers another reason to spend an extra day in Middle Georgia. Fall is an especially great time to venture beyond the campground, and our guide to 5 Hidden Gems in Middle Georgia to Visit This Fall offers a little inspiration for your next outing.
For some snowbirds, Twin Oaks is already a familiar part of their annual route. For others, it might be a new discovery that becomes a favorite stop for future trips.
That’s part of what makes the Follow the Sun journey so much fun. You never know which stop might become one you look forward to visiting again.

Take the Journey With You: The Follow the Sun Passport
As part of Follow the Sun, travelers can also collect stamps through the Follow the Sun Passport.
The passport adds a little something extra to stays you may already be making along your route. Here’s how it works:
- Stay a minimum of 2 nights on a qualifying stay to earn 1 stamp.
- Stamps can be collected at different participating Streamside Resorts or through separate qualifying stays at the same resort.
- After collecting 3 stamps, you’ll unlock 30% off a future stay of 2–7 nights.
- The reward stay must be booked by December 31, 2026.
- Reward travel must be completed by December 31, 2027.
The passport is one way to keep track of where the road has taken you while giving you another reason to think about where you might want to go next.
You can explore all 22 participating Streamside Resorts on the Follow the Sun page.
Stay an Extra Day
Snowbird travel can easily become about miles.
How early can you get on the road? How far can you make it before dinner? How many miles are left until the final destination?
RV travel also gives you the freedom to ask a different question: What if we stayed here another day?
An extra night can turn a travel stop into part of the trip. It gives you time to explore a town you’ve driven past before, try the restaurant another camper mentioned at check-in, spend an afternoon outside the RV, or simply take a day off from packing up and pulling onto the highway.
Sometimes, those unhurried stops become the places you remember long after the winter is over.
Your Route Can Change. Your Favorites Can Stay.
Part of the fun of snowbird season is that no two journeys have to look exactly alike.
You may return to the same winter destination every year but discover a different stop on the way. You might revisit a campground that has become part of your annual route. Or another traveler might mention a place that sends next year’s trip in an entirely new direction.
It isn’t only about where you end up. It’s about all the places that become part of the story along the way.
So as the RV points south this season, leave a little room in the itinerary for the unexpected. Stay an extra night. Return to an old favorite. Try somewhere new. Add a stamp to your passport when your travels bring you to a participating Streamside Resort.
Follow the sun and see what you find along the way.
