Powerboat Racing, Live Music, and More Near God’s Country RV Resort
Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to visit Shreveport, Louisiana. If you’re settled in at God’s Country RV Resort, you will discover that Northwest Louisiana throws one of the most festive, food-filled long weekends in the South. Between a nationally recognized Cajun crawfish festival, Formula 1 powerboat racing on the Red River, live music at every turn, and a meaningful ceremony to honor fallen heroes, there’s no shortage of ways to fill your long weekend.
The Setting: Shreveport-Bossier Over Memorial Day
Shreveport-Bossier City sits on either side of the Red River in the northwestern corner of Louisiana. The weather is warm, the crawfish are fat, and the music never stops. God’s Country RV Resort puts you right in the heart of it, close enough to enjoy everything without ever feeling far from camp.
1. Mudbug Madness Festival
If you only do one thing in Shreveport this Memorial Day Weekend, make it Mudbug Madness. What began in 1984 as a small street festival has grown into one of Louisiana’s largest and most beloved Cajun celebrations, now a nationally recognized Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event.
Over three days at Festival Plaza along the Red River, the festival features two stages of nonstop live music with more than 30 bands, leaning into zydeco, country, blues, and Cajun favorites. Headlining the 2026 festival is Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, kicking things off with a high-energy Louisiana Saturday Night that will have the whole crowd dancing. Beyond the music, Mudbug Madness offers mountains of boiled crawfish, local food vendors, art and craft booths, a wildly entertaining crawfish eating contest, and the “Kids on the Bayou” children’s area with activities all weekend long.
2. Red River Rumble F1 Powerboat Showdown
Running alongside Mudbug Madness and making this one of the most action-packed Memorial Day weekends in the country, the IHRA F1 Powerboat Series returns to Shreveport-Bossier for the Red River Rumble. This is Round 4 of the inaugural 2026 IHRA season, and it features more than 50 of the fastest outboard powerboats in the nation screaming across the Red River at speeds up to 120 mph.
General admission viewing is free to the public from Riverview Park on the Shreveport bank and the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City. The weekend kicks off with the IHRA F1 Block Party on Commerce Street, a fan-friendly event where you can meet the drivers, see the boats up close, and even sit inside a real Formula 1 powerboat. Championship racing then runs Saturday and Sunday on a tight riverside course where changing wind and water conditions make every lap unpredictable.
3. Memorial Day Ceremony Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Keithville
Before the weekend festivities wrap up, take a moment to honor the reason we gather. The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville holds a flag-placing event followed by the annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The ceremony features a flag presentation, guest speakers, a moment of silence, and a 21-gun salute. It draws veterans, military families, and community members who come together to reflect and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
4. R&B on the Lawn
If you’re looking for laid-back afternoon vibes after a morning on the riverfront, head to Caddo Common Park for R&B on the Lawn. This free outdoor concert features soulful music and food vendors. Bring your lawn chairs and soak in the community spirit. It’s a perfect complement to the bigger events happening across the weekend.
