More Than a Destination: Make the Journey South Part of Your Snowbird Story
More Than a Destination: Make the Journey South Part of Your Snowbird Story

Discover Streamside’s New Follow the Sun Passport Travel Program
For many snowbirds, heading south for the winter is a tradition that begins long before reaching their final destination. The RV gets packed, familiar highways come back into view, and favorite stops along the way become part of the experience. Some places are worth returning to year after year, while others turn into unexpected discoveries that make the journey even more memorable.
That’s the idea behind Follow the Sun, a seasonal travel program from Streamside Resorts that encourages RV travelers to make the most of their journey toward warmer weather. With 22 participating Streamside Resorts, guests can explore new destinations, revisit familiar favorites, and collect stamps in their Follow the Sun passport during qualifying stays. Along the way, those stamps can add up to a reward for a future getaway.
For travelers passing through Mississippi, Rivertown Rose Campground in Vicksburg is one of the places where that journey can unfold. Conveniently located near I-20, the campground offers spacious RV sites, welcoming amenities, and easy access to a city filled with history, Mississippi River views, and local attractions worth exploring.
Whether Vicksburg is a familiar stop on your annual route or somewhere you’re discovering for the first time, there’s more to the snowbird journey than simply reaching your winter destination. And with Follow the Sun, the places you visit along the way become part of something bigger.
The Stops That Become Part of the Tradition
Ask an experienced snowbird about their annual trip south, and chances are they’ll have a few favorite stops to tell you about.
Maybe it’s a campground they’ve visited for years, where the surroundings feel familiar as soon as they pull in. Maybe it’s a small-town restaurant they discovered on a previous trip or a historic attraction they finally made time to explore.
These are the little traditions that develop when the same journey becomes part of your year. And even on a familiar route, there’s always the possibility of finding something new.
That’s one of the best things about traveling by RV. There’s room to revisit the places you love while making time for experiences you might otherwise miss. A stop that starts as a convenient place to spend the night can turn into a few nights and a favorite part of the trip.
Sometimes, discovering something new is as simple as taking a different road. For travelers passing through Mississippi, these scenic drives near Vicksburg offer a few ideas for exploring beyond the usual route.
Follow the Sun: How the Passport Works
Streamside Resorts created Follow the Sun to connect the places RV travelers visit throughout their seasonal journeys. The program includes 22 participating Streamside Resorts, giving guests opportunities to collect passport stamps through qualifying stays as they travel.
The passport is designed to fit into the trips travelers are already taking. Guests can collect stamps at different participating resorts or return to the same resort for separate qualifying stays.
Here’s How It Works
- Stay at least 2 nights: Each qualifying stay of two or more nights at a participating Streamside Resort earns one passport stamp.
- Collect 3 stamps: Stamps can come from different participating resorts or separate qualifying stays at the same resort.
- Unlock 30% off: After collecting three stamps, guests earn 30% off a future stay of 2–7 nights.
- Keep the deadlines in mind: Reward stays must be booked by December 31, 2026, with travel completed by December 31, 2027.
For snowbirds who already have favorite stops along their route, the passport offers a way to connect those stays. And for travelers interested in exploring somewhere new, the participating resorts provide additional destinations to consider.
The goal isn’t to change the journey just to collect stamps. It’s to make the most of the places that naturally fit your travels.

Discover Vicksburg Along the Way
If your snowbird travels bring you through Mississippi, a couple of nights at Rivertown Rose can give you the opportunity to experience a little more of Vicksburg before continuing south.

Spend part of your visit exploring Vicksburg National Military Park, where historic monuments, battlefield landscapes, and interpretive exhibits tell the story of one of the Civil War’s most significant campaigns.
Head downtown to browse local shops, discover galleries, or find a restaurant for dinner. The city’s riverfront murals offer another glimpse into Vicksburg’s history, while views of the Mississippi River are a reminder of the role this waterway has played in the region for generations.
